4th Annual Fall Parking Lot Sale and Parts Exchange

 This past Saturday morning was our 4th Annual Fall Parking Lot Sale and Parts Exchange. The day started pretty early for the staff and me. We were at California Car Cover around 5am to start pulling merchandise and setting up the canopies.

 It was well over 100 degrees on Saturday, so it kept a lot of our parts exchange vendors. A lot of customers still came over in their classic cars to check out the deals under the tent. We still had a handful of participants that had great deals on car parts and accessories. As usual, California Car Cover hosted coffee, donuts and cold drinks for everyone that stopped by.

 Even though it was pretty hot out, we still had some fun with the vendors and customers. We set up a game of Baggo for customers and employees to enjoy.

 Our sales associates were on hand to help customers with our open box car covers. We had great deals on California Car Covers from canceled or incorrect orders.

47th Annual Roadster Round Up

Friday morning I joined my father for the 47th Annual Roadster Round Up. The event was held in Clovis, Ca this year. The annual event in casual weekend get together for a handful of California roadster clubs. Since my father is a member of the L.A. Roadsters club I cruised up highway 99 with him in his 1932 Ford for the event. 

Our first stop was the 24th Street Cafe in Bakersfield, Ca. It is one of our favorite places to have breakfast when we are in town for car shows. After a quick bite, we got back on the road. 

We cruised up to the show with our good friends Rick and Johnny. You will see Rick's 1934 Ford in a few of the photos from the weekend. Our next stop was at Bravo Farms in Traver, Ca for some fuel. I had never stopped at Bravo Farms, but it was a pretty cool place to stop for gas. Between all the old signs, antiques, and cheese factory, you could tell it has been a roadside attraction for many years.

We didn't have time to have a meal or watch the staff make cheese, but we did have a few minutes to take some photos of the cars out back. I was able to take a few photo collages for the California Car Cover Instagram photo sharing feed.

I thought this was a funny moment. Here is my father, Jim, in the front talking to my mother when we arrived in Clovis. Rick is behind him talking to his wife. They were unaware that they were standing in the same position.

In the afternoon a few of us drove over to the car collection of Richard Peters. Richard has a great collection of cars and we were thankful that he let us tour the shop. He was the original owner of the famous Autorama car, the Ala Kart.

After dinner on Friday night in Old Town Clovis, we walked through the weekly Farmer's Market. Evidently, this is were all the local residents go on Friday night, because the streets were packed with people. There was live music all night long, plus plenty of local farmers and businesses on hand. We checked out some of the antique shops and food vendors before calling it a night.

The Saturday morning it was off to the Wonder Valley Resort. All people attending the event met up in the morning and drove out to the resort together. It was a chance to meet and greet with all the club members.

After a luncheon with all the fellow club members it was time to drive back to Old Town. On the way back we stopped at the Simonian Farms. This farm and fruit stand has been in business since 1901. Besides fruit, the fruit stand has a collection of antique bicycles and pedals cars on display that the family has collected through the years. They also recently opened a new building that recreates an old western town with a general store and bar.

Saturday night the host club, the Valley Roadsters, put on a nice dinner for all the club members. Everyone had a great time at the event. After dessert at a local ice cream parlor with various people from the car club we called it a night before heading back to Los Angeles first thing Sunday morning. My father and I had a great time with all of our old friends and new ones at the Roadster Round Up.

10th Annual Ventura Nationals Photo Highlights 2012

This past weekend was the 10th Annual Ventura Nationals just up the coast from California Car Cover at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. I drove out there on Saturday morning to check out the action at the event.

The Ventura Nationals attracted a lot of traditional rods and custom cars from all over the West Coast. There was plenty of primer paint and white wall tires parked on the grass. In addition, there were some wild and impressive candy and metallic paint jobs on a lot of 50's era Fords and Mercurys.

The most popular cars at the show were definitely '32 Fords and early 50's Fords and Mercurys.

Check out the paint work on this Lincoln. It really looked good once the sun was high in the sky.

Ventura is a great place for a car show. It is always much cooler out there than in LA and the fairgrounds have plenty of parking for classic cars. It is an easy drive up the 101.

In addition to all the custom cars there were a few vintage motorcycles on display. The show is only open to pre 1968 American cars and pre 1969 motorcycles, though there were  a few slightly older lowriders allowed into the event.

Inside the main exhibition hall was a group of custom classic cars with amazing paint jobs. Also, additional vendors were inside showcasing their art, collectibles and apparel.

Most cars had either wide or skinny white wall tires.

A few popular rock n roll bands played music on the main stage throughout the day and continued into the evening at the annual after party.

 After the show I ran over to Iron & Resin's Flagship Retail Store on Main St. in downtown Ventura. The shop recently opened and I was excited to check it out. We have been a retailer of I&R apparel for a few months and the new store looks great. Honestly, I was a bit jealous of how the place looks.

 In addition to all the Iron and Resin Apparel, the shop carries some great American brands and has vintage helmets and motorcycles on display. If you even have a day trip planned up the 101 be sure to stop in the Iron and Resin Garage.

 Sunday morning it was off to Super Car Sunday. Even though it was not the massive end of the month get together there were still quite a few cars on display. I thought the Subaru 360 van below was pretty cool. The small van had three rows of seating. Each row could comfortably accommodate 1 person each.
