Audi Club North America Detail Day

Saturday, April 9th: We hosted our first ever detail day with the local branch of the Audi Club of North America this past weekend. A few local Audi drivers came by California Car Cover to try out our Golden Shine products.

One of our Golden Shine crew members was able to demonstrate products and answer detailing questions for the Audi owners.







A small group of Audi owners met at California Car Cover for some complimentary coffee and donuts, plus a detailing seminar.

Restore the Tradition

This 1957 Chevy Nomad has been in Kevin Spangler's family since 1958. This Nomad was the family hauler growing up in Southern California. The above photo is actually of Kevin (being held) and his family. Between 1970 and 2008 the Nomad spent a fair amount of time in and out of storage.

Finally, after all those years, Kevin decide to start the restoration of the Chevy. Kevin took the car over to D&P Classic Chevy in Huntington Beach, Ca for a frame-off restoration. The project was finally finished in late 2010 and we are gratefully that Kevin took the day off to drive it to our studio. We asked Kevin what this car meant to him, this is what he said.

"When I was a little kid this car meant “mom and dad, family, and security” to me. Even though I was only 2 years old at the time, I still remember going car shopping with my dad when he was looking for a Nomad. I also remember the day we brought the Nomad home from Selman Chevrolet. I remember many of the places it has taken me over the years since 1958, all of the extended family and friends it has hauled, and adventures it has taken me on. I remember guys always trying to buy the car from my dad back in the ‘60s when it was our primary vehicle. When it became my first car, guys were still trying to buy it from me. Now that it’s restored, I really get “the looks” when I drive it. Besides being a Nomad, the family connection to this car going back to September 1958 makes this car doubly unique. My 12 year old son can hardly wait to get his hands on it to continue another generation of family history with our 57 Nomad."

March 28th: A Rainy Super Car Sunday

Some wet weather has been plaguing West Coast car shows of late and the most recent Super Car Sunday met the same fate. Everyone was looking forward to having a large collection of Ferrari automobiles at the show, but morning drizzle kept a lot of the cars and people away.

Even with the poor weather, a number of enthusiasts drove out their automobiles for a cup of coffee and some socializing. There was still a great variety of classics and exotics that SCS has become known for hosting.

Super Car Sunday & The Early Times Poker Run

2/27 The last Sunday in February meant SCS at the Woodland Hills Promenade. Though it was pretty cold in the morning, once the sun came out, so did the cars. Here are some photos. Hopefully we'll see you out there at the end of March.

Why has Super Car Sunday become so popular? You see a great mix of new and old, American and European, hot rods and exotics, all in one parking lot.





From Super Car Sunday, we had to hustle back to California Car Cover to meet with up with the Early Times Car Club. The club included us as one of the stops along their annual Poker Run. About 50 club members and quite a few members stopped by to visit our showroom and sample some of our Golden Shine Car Care Products.

Welcome Home

You will find a lot of classic Ford Mustang automobiles cruising the streets of Southern California, but I do not think many of them have as great a story as this one.
Jack Klunder, a friend and customer from So Cal, owned this car back in 1974. His father had purchased this used 1966 Ford Mustang for him as a way to get around town while he was in college. One night at school in 1974, the Mustang was stolen from a campus parking lot.
Evidently, the car was stolen as part of a local theft ring. In fact, 60 vehicles were stolen that night. The CHP officers took all of Jack's details and told him that they would call him if the vehicle ever turned up. Jack was heartbroken. Even though the Mustang was stolen, Jack remained a Mustang lover. He owns a newer Mustang and even bought his daughters Mustangs when they were able to drive.
Then late in 2009, 35 years later, the CHP finally returned that phone call to tell him the Mustang had been located. A person who had bought the vehicle in the meantime noticed that the VIN numbers did not match the documentation and contacted the CHP. That is when the CHP contacted the Klunder residence.
Since 2009, the car has been given a complete restoration to bring it back to its 1966 appearance. Dan Veltkamp of Auto-B-Craft did the restoration work and this Mustang sure does look great.
